Hey guys...

I've been suffering from an art block for a long time now...and I've been roleplaying a quite a bit. But I was doing my usual thing, watching anime and roleplaying...

when my sister asks, "So you can sell art on that?" She was referring to DeviantArt. This is funny to me because during my sophmore year, she signed up for DeviantArt just because of you guys' artwork that I was showing her. But here's the thing, she's not into art. Kinda weird right?

Anyways I answer her, "Yes I can sell prints of my artwork on here."

She then asks, "Have you been selling anything?"

I shook my head and said, "No I haven't."

"Why?" She asks.

"Because..." I looked down and realized I wasn't sure. So I answered, "Because I don't have enough watchers?"

She just stared at me for a bit and then shrugged and went back to watching WWE. So then I took the time to think about my artwork on DeviantArt and meeting all of you guys. It's been great. And I've been there for you guys...and you guys have been there for me.

But...when I think about it...

I don't really know if anyone's seeing my artwork. And I only have only 10 watchers and they're all very dear to me. They're like family. And...I've been seeing everyone else's work and seeing how they're more experienced and better than mine. I haven't let that bother me for so long. But...then I notice my artwork...

It's not...as good as you guys's artwork.

Heck :iconthestarfirephoenix: made my OC Mari better than I ever could. I mean look at my drawing.

Now look at the commission (THAT I LOVE THANK YOU) That she did for me.

Angelic Lake Commission by CoffeeAddictedDragon

See the difference? Hers is clearly better.

Don't get me wrong I'm not jealous. I see it as a beautiful piece of artwork. But...

I just...I'm out of everyone's league. Clearly my fellow watchers and many others that I've seen on DeviantArt have much better artistic skills than I do. I don't see it as a competition but...

I've been doubting myself...and the lack of comments and views is crippling.

I mean...I've finally come to the point where I'm thinking...

"Is anyone paying my artwork any mind?"

"Is all this worth it?"

"Is my excessive art block telling me to call it quits?"

"Does anyone care?"

I mean praise keeps me going but criticism or being ignored I'm still working on.
...

Let me know what you guys think in the comments...

Anyone. If anyone comments...I'll be happy. It'll help keep me going.

But if not...

then...

*sighs*

I just looked at your art and it's better than anything I could ever do.  And like your friend said, every artist has their own style so just concentrate on developing yours.  And I'm sure when you draw the bunny you got at Henry's Winter Ball. he'll be just as cute as you want him to be.  The closest I can get to art is building stuff from pre-selected parts as evidenced by my smileys. The smiley builder was part of an email smiley application that we had to delete from a previous computer because it was downloading all kinds of adware onto the computer.  That's why I can no longer find the name of the smiley builder I built the smileys from.  Fortunately I had saved my smileys to the computer and they were then transferred to later computers.

You're welcome. I'm glad it helped you.  What i should have said is that I can't remember the name of the smiley builder that I built the smileys from since it was part of another email smiley application that we had to delete from the computer because of all the adware it was loading onto the computer.

Oh hun, I'm sorry your having a lapse in confidence. I mean there's not much I can say, I think you have a lot of potential, it just takes a huge amount of patience to get the recognition you desire. Heck, I've been on for three years and only this past year have I managed to get a lot of watchers. I know it can seem sometimes like no one is looking, though most of the time people are, they just don't have time to comment.

Also, I've been drawing for about a decade now, and only since being on DA have I actually been able to refine my skills. If you look at my earliest art, it looks not that different from yours. Honestly, everyone goes through this stage, so just keep pressing on. :)

I do have some suggestions to help you if you want.

1. Draw some fanart: getting people who like a certain thing like yu-gi-oh or a book you like will help spread awareness and will lead to them seeing your other works. I found a lot of good artists through searching for things that I like, then viewing the other things they do. The same thing happened to me when I first posted TEOIC and the Encounter series.

2: Watch speedpaints: This helps me learn new techniques and can be quite relaxing and inspiring. Don't look at it as something out of your league, try and see how little techniques and be integrated into your style. Make your own hodge-podge of techniques and mix them together in your drawings, and soon you'll have your own, personal style. Confidence my dear. ;)

3: Draw LOTS of your original characters: Practice them, learn about them, draw them and share them. You think my characters were a hit over night? It took AGES for people to recognize my darlings, but it happened, and it can happen to you. :)

4: Look at the bright side: Sure, there are going to be people who are better then you, don't use that as a deterrent, use it as a boost!
MANY artists shifted styles over time, you see their beginning stuff and you might just find that they weren't to far away from what you draw currently. I noticed something about you too when you made Mari. The style in which you drew her claws looked similar o mine, which makes me think that you used my style as an example and thus matched it. (quite wonderfully I might add.)

As for selling art, that'll come in time. I only just started doing commissions recently. ^^;
You don't need views or favorites or comments or collabs to be confident on here. If your drawing for you and having fun, then who cares?
Sure it helps, but don't let that be the soul source of your confidence dear, it grows with time and effort. ;)

Good grief my corny side is showing eh? XD
